The Inner Work of
Postpartum
Preparation
A 2hr online interactive workshop to explore how our inner world, patterning and beliefs impacts our ability to plan and receive a truly nourished postpartum.
Friday July 3rd - 9.30am AEDST - via Zoom - $45AUD - Recording available
Inner work has become more relevant in birth preparation, yet it is equally as important when preparing for postpartum.
Inner work means looking at how our patterned beliefs, conditioning, doubts, fears and self worth impacts the way we prepare for and experience postpartum (and motherhood beyond). Our inner workings determine our ability to rest, state our needs, receive help and set boundaries around our wishes for ourselves and our baby.
Common postpartum education focuses on the 'what': how to rest, the importance of support, stocking the freezer etc. Yet the psychological preparation is often missed, which can result in a new Mama finding it hard to 'be' in the postpartum experience to its fullness and potential.
The essence of postpartum- softness, stillness, slowness, surrender and receptivity is at complete odds with the fast paced, hyper-independent and productivity-based culture we live in.
If you were raised in this culture, there is going to be a natural resistance to the pace and energy of postpartum. Inner work is crucial because we have been deeply conditioned and groomed to basically reject everything that postpartum healing requires.
In this interactive workshop, we will bring to light some common patterns that we carry as women, that can wreak havoc in postpartum, if not addressed beforehand.
There will be space for discussion, sharing, reflection and journal prompts.
Major themes and points of discussion:
• learning how to value our role as mother when the common conditioning tells us that mothers aren't important.
• For so many of us, asking for help and receiving acts of kindness is very challenging. To the point that we would rather struggle than ask for help!
• The relationship to our body and the pressure of 'bounce back' culture. Which, if not looked at beforehand, can make you susceptible to it, which does not help with postpartum recovery.
Your relationship to rest, stillness and slowness. How to shift this and we suggest ways to support yourself to rest.
Setting boundaries around visits, having your parenting values respected etc.
We are advocates for doing the inner work in postpartum prep because we know the potential of transformation and how this sets you up not just for postpartum, but for motherhood as well.
This workshop is for pregnant mothers and those in the preconception phase, or birth workers wanting to expand their postpartum preparation skills.
We look forward to sharing this with you.
